Grey Reef Fishing Report - October 18th, 2022 Guide Brad Nicol
Fall fishing is at its best right now on the Reef. Mornings and evenings have been cool, leaves are in full fall colors and the fish are as happy as ever. The bugs are coming off through out the day and the fish have been on the feed. Dry fly fishing is great right now. Mayflies and Caddis are the top of the menu right now. BWO’s have been hatching throughout the day and fish have been on the surface feeding in pods. In the late morning and afternoons there have been a good number of smaller caddis bouncing around. If dry flies are your preferred method, like mine, then this is the time. We have also had good fish eating smaller streamers in the stretches around town. Low flows and super clear water make a stealthy approach the best way to catch good sized fish. Nymphing below a good floating hopper has been good as well. There are alot of fish in the head of runs. The best nymphs this past weekend were the Birds Nest, Pheasant Tail and RS2. As far as dries go a good Parachute Adams is always a great choice. Try dropping an RS2 off the back and work the fish feeding an inch or two below the surface. Enjoy the nice fall weather and the great fishing!
